My biggest screw-up last October was hurrying to catch my bus.

I had 3 mins to rush and catch my bus. Before heading out the door, I saw “my phone” on the table, dumped it in my bag and ran for my bus. 15 mins into my bus ride, my phone was vibrating inside my pocket.

I got FB messages from my wife that she couldn’t find her phone.

I checked my bag and there it is – “my phone” that I grabbed was my wife’s! I had mine in my pocket all along. 🤦‍♀️

I was hurrying because I want to make sure I make it on time for Agile Australia’s ‘Six Agile Mantras’ workshop by Joshua Kerievsky.

What’s my biggest takeaway from that workshop and for the day?

Be quick — but don’t hurry.

The first agile mantra in the workshop! I laughed and cringed inside when I heard it. Oh, how many mistakes have we committed from hurrying or rushing?!

In your teams, have you ever…

🏃 Skipped refactoring so you can develop faster and deploy to production earlier;

🏃 Started work on many tasks or stories in the hopes that you will complete all at the same time; or

🏃 Missed doing story time (or requirements walkthrough) because it is already written?

These all happened in my past teams. Because we were hurrying, we actually ended up being slow. Mistakes make you slow.

When was the last time you hurried?

P.S. Joshua’s book, Joy of Agility is now available on Amazon.
